What is a PA?

Physician Assistants are licensed healthcare providers who work with physicians to care for patients. They are an integral part of the health care team, enhancing patient care, and reducing health care costs.

What can a PA do?

In North Carolina a PA is licensed to practice medicine under physician supervision. They evaluate, diagnose and treat illnesses, provide preventive care, order, perform and interpret medical tests, assist in surgery, provide patient education, counseling, and more!

What is “PA-C”?

The title “PA-C” means “Physician Assistant-Certified”. Physician Assistants are nationally certified and licensed by each state. In North Carolina, a PA must complete 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and pass the national certifying exam every six years.

Does health insurance cover Physician Assistants?
