Fast Track Program:
We continue to offer our “Five Days from Detection to Diagnosis” policy regarding suspicious breast masses and mammograms. This policy ensures your patients will be seen by a physician within 48 hours, and in the vast majority of cases, a biopsy will be performed at their initial visit. The results of the biopsy will be available within five days or less of the patient’s initial appointment. Just ask to have your patient fast-tracked.
Breast Ultrasound: Same day results
Breast ultrasound exams are commonly performed on the day of the office visit and results are communicated to the patient at the time they see the physician; usually immediately following the exam. This allows the physician to precede with some treatment options, including ultrasound guided needle biopsies or aspirations which are performed in the office usually on the same day as the appointment.
Ultrasound guided breast biopsy
Ultrasound guided breast biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses ultrasound technology to find suspicious areas in the breast. After the area is detected a needle is used to withdraw tissue samples for biopsy.
ATEC® Breast Biopsy and Excision System
Coastal Surgery Specialists and Suros Surgical Systems, Inc. are excited to bring the ATEC® Breast Biopsy and Excision System to the women of Wilmington, NC.
Physician inspired and patient focused, the ATEC® system offers a fast, safe and simple breast biopsy option requiring only a small incision and a one-minute biopsy procedure. This compassionate breast care option gives women a non-surgical method of diagnosis and the ability to resume their normal daily routines immediately following their procedure.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
Stereotactic breast biopsy is a core biopsy which removes small amounts of breast tissue using a hollow needle. During this procedure x-ray is used to help guide the physician to the correct area for biopsy. Stereotactic biopsy may prevent the need for an open (surgical) biopsy. Stereotactic biopsy is an office based procedure which will last approximately one hour.
MammoSite Catheter Placement
MammoSite is a five day radiation treatment on a targeted area in the breast. Our surgeons begin this process by removing the tumor via lumpectomy, and then placing a small balloon catheter inside the lumpectomy cavity. Patients are then able to receive targeted radiation treatment by a radiation oncologist.
